Colorado Wildlife Officers Retrieve Drowned Bear

       ASPEN, Colo. — State wildlife officers in western Colorado are used to responding to calls about bears, but a recent one was unusual.
    Last week, the Division of Wildlife was sent to retrieve a black bear that had drowned in the Pitkin County reservoir. Division spokesman Randy Hampton says he's not sure how the bear drowned, but it might have fallen into a diversion ditch that runs through a pipeline and into the reservoir.
    Hampton says he suspects that with high water levels, the bear was sucked into the pipeline and drowned.
    Hampton says it's the first bear downing state wildlife officers have responded to this year.
